Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
42. Say, "Who is it that can protect you by night and by day from the Most Merciful (if His punishment comes)?" Yet they turn away from the remembrance of their Lord [38].
[38] That is, the deeds of these disbelievers are such that Allah’s punishment could seize them at any time, whether by night or by day. It is only Allah’s vast mercy and His special kindness that He does not immediately seize people for their sins. And if His punishment were to come, what means would they have by which they could save themselves from Allah’s punishment? Or what being, other than Allah, could save them from punishment? In reality, they are mocking Allah’s law of gradual reprieve and respite, which is pure mercy for people. Whereas they should have been grateful to such a Master who continues to grant them respite despite their sins, their condition is such that they cannot even bear to hear mention of Him.
