سُوْرَةُ طٰهٰ

Surah Taa-Haa (20) — Ayah 58

فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ بِسِحْرٍ مِّثْلِهِۦ فَٱجْعَلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ مَوْعِدًا لَّا نُخْلِفُهُۥ نَحْنُ وَلَآ أَنتَ مَكَانًا سُوًى ﴿58﴾
"Then verily, we can produce magic the like thereof; so appoint a meeting between us and you, which neither we nor you shall fail to keep, in an open place where both shall have a just and equal chance (and beholders could witness the competition)."
فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ falanatiyannaka Then we will surely produce for you
بِسِحْرٍۢ bisiḥ'rin magic
مِّثْلِهِۦ mith'lihi like it
فَٱجْعَلْ fa-ij'ʿal So make
بَيْنَنَا baynanā between us
وَبَيْنَكَ wabaynaka and between you
مَوْعِدًۭا mawʿidan an appointment
لَّا not
نُخْلِفُهُۥ nukh'lifuhu we will fail it
نَحْنُ naḥnu [we]
وَلَآ walā and not
أَنتَ anta you
مَكَانًۭا makānan (in) a place
سُوًۭى suwan even

58. So we too will bring magic like it. So set an appointment between us and you, which neither we nor you will break, at a place equally convenient [40] for both."

[40] Musa (peace be upon him) himself also desired such a contest so that the effects of Pharaoh’s false propaganda on the minds of the common people could be removed, and so that people themselves could distinguish between truth and falsehood.
