سُوْرَةُ البَقَرَةِ
Surah Al-Baqara (2) — Ayah 97
قُلْ مَن كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّجِبْرِيلَ فَإِنَّهُۥ نَزَّلَهُۥ عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَهُدًى وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿97﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "Whoever is an enemy to Jibrîl (Gabriel) (let him die in his fury), for indeed he has brought it (this Qur’ân) down to your heart by Allâh’s Permission, confirming what came before it [i.e. the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and guidance and glad tidings for the believers.

97. Say, "Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel [114]—it is he who has brought down this Qur'an upon your heart by Allah's command, confirming what came before it, and as guidance and glad tidings for the believers."

The Reason for the Jews’ Enmity Towards Jibreel:
The Jews believed that Jibreel was their enemy. They used to say that it was this very angel who, many times, brought punishment upon them and made their enemies prevail over them. Thus, when Abdullah bin Salam ؓ heard the news of your ﷺ arrival in Madinah, he was picking fruit in his orchard at the time. He immediately came to you ﷺ and said, “I will ask you three things which no one except a prophet can answer. Tell me: What is the first sign of the Hour? And what will the people of Paradise eat first when they enter Paradise? And why does a child resemble one of its parents in appearance?” You ﷺ replied, “Just now Jibreel has informed me of these matters.” Abdullah bin Salam said, “Jibreel?” You ﷺ said, “Yes.” Ibn Salam said, “Out of all the angels, he is the very one whom the Jews consider their enemy.” At that moment, you ﷺ recited this verse:
﴿ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّجِبْرِيْلَ﴾ [بخاري، كتاب التفسير، سورة البقرة]
[115] That is, when it is Jibreel who has brought down this Quran, which confirms your own book, the Torah, then what sense does it make to be hostile towards Jibreel?
