And (remember) when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (saying), "Hold firmly to what We have given you and hear (Our Word)." They said, "We have heard and disobeyed." And their hearts absorbed (the worship of) the calf because of their disbelief. Say: "Worst indeed is that which your faith enjoins on you if you are believers."

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

93. And (remember) when We raised the Mount (Tur) above you and took your covenant, (saying), "Hold firmly to what We have given you and listen." They said, "We hear," but (in their hearts said), "We will not obey." [110] Because of their disbelief, the love of the calf was infused into their hearts. Say, "How evil is that which your faith commands you to do, if you are believers." [111]

[110]
Even at the Time of the Covenant, There Was Deceit in Your Hearts:

That is, when the mountain of Tur was raised above your heads and you were being made to pledge to act upon the commandments of the Torah, whose first and fundamental command was that you would not worship anyone other than Allah nor associate anyone with Him, your forefathers said that they had heard these commandments, but even at that time there was deceit in your hearts. Because the germs of calf-worship were present in your hearts, and you did not truly accept the commandments of the Torah from your hearts.
[111] That is, the demand of faith is that a person should completely abandon polytheistic beliefs and actions and hasten towards good and righteous deeds. But what kind of faith is yours, which leads to polytheistic acts, breaches of covenant, and disobedience? Your forefathers did the same, and you are following in their footsteps.
