How bad is that for which they have sold their ownselves, that they should disbelieve in that which Allâh has revealed (the Qur’ân), grudging that Allâh should reveal of His Grace unto whom He wills of His slaves. So they have drawn on themselves wrath upon wrath. And for the disbelievers, there is disgracing torment.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

90. How evil is that for which they have sold themselves: that they reject the guidance Allah has sent down, out of sheer envy and [106] spite, simply because Allah sent down His grace (revelation) to whomever He willed of His servants. So they have drawn upon themselves wrath upon wrath [107] from Allah. And for such disbelievers, there is a humiliating punishment.

[106] The real reason for the malice and stubbornness of these Jews was that the Prophet of the Last Age ﷺ did not come from their nation. And why was he born in that nation which they considered unlettered, uncivilized, and inferior to themselves? Allah Almighty gave this answer: Allah Himself knows best the wisdom behind His actions, and He grants prophethood to whomever He deems appropriate among His servants. You are not the custodians of His grace that Allah should consult you or grant prophethood to whomever you wish.
[107] The list of crimes committed by the Jews is very long, at the top of which are the worship of the calf in the presence of a prophet, the killing of prophets, and the deliberate denial of the prophethood of the Prophet of the Last Age ﷺ. And for such crimes, no matter how severe the punishment, is still insufficient. Incidentally, this verse also shows that not every punishment is for humiliation; rather, the punishment that sinful Muslims will receive will be to purify them from their sins, not to humiliate and disgrace them. However, the punishment given to disbelievers will be for the purpose of humiliation.
