Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
269. He grants wisdom [385] to whom He wills, and whoever is granted wisdom has truly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding.
[385] What is Wisdom?
Wisdom can be defined in many ways, and all of them are correct in their respective contexts. For example, the Prophetic saying ﷺ is: «رَاسُالْحِكْمَةمَخَافَةُاللّٰهِ» That is, the greatest wisdom is the fear of Allah (taqwa), because taqwa is the very thing that keeps a person protected and steadfast on the straight path. Imam Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, has proven with numerous evidences in his book Al-Risalah that wherever the words "Book and Wisdom" appear together in the Noble Quran, wisdom refers to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The literal meaning of wisdom is the method of carrying out a task properly, that is, having correct insight and sound judgment in carrying out a command. In this verse, it is explained that whoever possesses the wealth of wisdom will never choose the path of Satan, and the satanic path is that a person hoards his wealth, does not spend anything from it, but rather remains preoccupied with increasing his wealth further. In this way, perhaps he may live prosperously in this world, but his Hereafter will be completely ruined. Therefore, true wisdom is that a person spends as much as possible. In this world, Allah will grant him its substitute, and in the Hereafter, He will grant him a great reward, and this is the greatest wealth and wisdom. One day, Hazrat Muawiyah ؓ said during a sermon that: The Prophet ﷺ said: When Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion. [بخاري، كتاب العلم، باب مَنْيُرِدِاللّٰهُبِهِخَيْرًايُفَقِّهْهُفِيْالدِّيْنِ] "And I am the distributor, and Allah is the Giver, and this Ummah will always remain established on Allah's command; those who oppose it will not be able to harm it, until Allah's command (the Day of Judgment) comes." [مسلم، كتاب الاماره، باب قولهﷺ لايزال طائفة من أمتي ظاهرين على الحق لايضرهم من خالفهم] From this verse and this hadith, it is understood that understanding of the religion is wisdom and the greatest wealth.
