The Cow · Medinan · Juz 3 · Page 43

Allâh is the Walî (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. But as for those who disbelieve, their Auliyâ (supporters and helpers) are Tâghût [false deities and false leaders], they bring them out from light into darkness. Those are the dwellers of the Fire, and they will abide therein forever. (See V.2:81,82)

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

257. Allah is the Protector of those who believe; He brings them out of darkness into light. But those who disbelieve, their protectors are Taghut, who bring them out of light into darkness. [367] Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein forever.

[367] There is only one straight path between two points, whereas crooked paths are countless. In other words, the darknesses of disbelief and misguidance are of many kinds and innumerable, while the light of Islam is only one and of one kind. Similarly, there can be countless false deities (taghut), whereas the true deity is only Allah. In this regard, in this verse, the singular pronoun is used for the straight path or light of Islam, and the plural pronouns are used for the darknesses of disbelief. The meaning is that whoever holds firmly to this strong bond of Allah, Allah becomes his protector and brings him out from the misguidances of disbelief and misguidance into the light of Islam. And those who turn away from or deny this strong bond or Shariah, all kinds of false deities become their protectors, who divert them from the path of guidance and push them into the misguidances and darknesses of disbelief and misguidance. Then, the light of Islam can no longer be seen by him.
