And (remember) when Ibrâhîm (Abraham) said, "My Lord, make this city (Makkah) a place of security and provide its people with fruits, such of them as believe in Allâh and the Last Day." He (Allâh) answered: "As for him who disbelieves, I shall leave him in contentment for a while, then I shall compel him to the torment of the Fire, and worst indeed is that destination!"

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

126. And when Abraham ؑ said, "My Lord, make this a secure city [154], and provide its people—those of them who believe in Allah and the Last Day—with fruits for sustenance." Allah said, "And whoever disbelieves, I will grant him enjoyment for a little while, then I will drive him to the punishment of the Fire, and what an evil destination it is." [155]

[154] That is, make this barren and desolate place into a peaceful city and provide the people who settle here with the sustenance of fruits. Thus, the prayer of Prophet Ibrahim ؑ was accepted, and this place has remained peaceful and respected to this day. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reaffirmed its sanctity, as is clear from the following hadith: Abu Shurayh said to ‘Amr bin Sa‘id (who was the governor of Madinah on behalf of Yazid) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon on the second day of the conquest of Makkah. First, he praised and glorified Allah, then said: Allah has made Makkah sacred; people have not made it sacred. So whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, it is not permissible for him to shed blood there nor to cut down any tree. [ بخاري، كتاب العلم، باب ليبلغ العلم الشاهد الغائب۔۔ الخ]

[155] When Prophet Ibrahim ؑ asked Allah Almighty about leadership, the answer was that it would be given only to the righteous, not to the wrongdoers. So now, in the prayer for the provision of fruits, Ibrahim ؑ himself added the condition of faith. Then Allah Almighty replied that in the matter of sustenance, faith is not a condition; I will give it to both the good and the bad. That condition of love and faith is only for leadership, not for sustenance.
