48. See how they set forth examples for you; they have gone so far astray that they cannot find the way [59].
[59] That is, sometimes they call you "bewitched," sometimes a "sorcerer," sometimes a "soothsayer," and sometimes a "poet"—their minds are so confounded that they themselves cannot agree on any one thing. They say one thing, then themselves begin to refute it. They do not see anything on which they can all agree—what, after all, should they call him?
