Surah Al-Hijr (15) — Ayah 71
قَالَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَـٰعِلِينَ ﴿71﴾

[Lût (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)."

71. Lot said, "If you must do something, here are my daughters [36]."

The Daughters of Sayyiduna Lut (peace be upon him):
One meaning is the same as is apparent from the words of the verse: that he was ready to give his daughters in marriage to them, although previously these very people had sought the hand of his daughters and he had refused due to their immoral behavior. The second meaning is that every prophet is the spiritual father of his people; therefore, he was also the spiritual father of the daughters of his people, and he said to them that the women in your homes, who are your wives, are also my daughters. If you are so overcome by lust, then fulfill it with them. This verse can never be taken to mean that he offered his daughters for indecency, because how could Sayyiduna Lut (peace be upon him), who was striving against such evil, himself commit another similar evil? Especially when he was a prophet of Allah.
