And when he [Yûsuf (Joseph)] attained his full manhood, We gave him wisdom and knowledge (the Prophethood); thus We reward the Muhsinûn (doers of good - see the footnote of V.9:120).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

22. And when Joseph reached maturity, We granted him wisdom and knowledge [21], and thus do We reward those who do good.

According to the commentators, he reached Egypt at the age of 17 and stayed in the house of the Aziz of Egypt for about three years. During this period, Allah Almighty granted him the power of decision and taught him the principles of governance, and also bestowed knowledge upon him. By knowledge is generally meant the knowledge of revelation, and such knowledge Allah Almighty instills in the hearts of the Prophets even before their appointment. For this reason, even the life of the Prophets before their prophethood is pure and spotless.
