Surah Hud (11) — Ayah 103

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّمَنْ خَافَ عَذَابَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَّجْمُوعٌ لَّهُ ٱلنَّاسُ وَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَّشْهُودٌ ﴿103﴾
Indeed in that (there) is a sure lesson for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter. That is a Day whereon mankind will be gathered together, and that is a Day when all (the dwellers of the heavens and the earth) will be present.
إِنَّ inna Indeed
فِى in
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that
لَـَٔايَةًۭ laāyatan (is) surely a Sign
لِّمَنْ liman for (those) who
خَافَ khāfa fear
عَذَابَ ʿadhāba (the) punishment
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ l-ākhirati (of) the Hereafter
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That
يَوْمٌۭ yawmun (is) a Day
مَّجْمُوعٌۭ majmūʿun (will) be gathered
لَّهُ lahu on it
ٱلنَّاسُ l-nāsu the mankind
وَذَٰلِكَ wadhālika and that
يَوْمٌۭ yawmun (is) a Day
مَّشْهُودٌۭ mashhūdun witnessed

103. Surely, in this is a sign for anyone who fears the punishment of the Hereafter [114]. That will be a Day when all people will be gathered together, and whatever happens on that Day will occur in the presence of all [115].

[114] That is, only those people take heed from the stories of the rise and fall of nations or from the law of rise and fall, who possess the fear of Allah and remain fearful of being held accountable before Allah in the Hereafter. These events prove effective in restraining them from disobeying Allah. As for those who neither fear Allah nor the punishment of the Hereafter, they read or observe such instructive events superficially, attributing them to coincidences of time, or at most, they seek material or natural explanations for them.
[115] One translation of "the witnessed day" is that on that day all people will be presented, meaning that on that day, not only will everyone be gathered, but they will also be brought before Allah for questioning. The second meaning is that testimonies will be established regarding the cases of these people, and all proceedings will take place in the presence of everyone.
