قُل لَّآ أَمْلِكُ لِنَفْسِى ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۗ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ ۚ إِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ ﴿49﴾
Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "I have no power over any harm or profit to myself except what Allâh may will. For every Ummah (a community or a nation), there is a term appointed; when their term comes, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment)." (Tafsir Al-Qurtubî).
قُل qul Say
لَّآ Not
أَمْلِكُ amliku I have power
لِنَفْسِى linafsī for myself
ضَرًّۭا ḍarran (for) any harm
وَلَا walā and not
نَفْعًا nafʿan (for) any profit
إِلَّا illā except
مَا what
شَآءَ shāa Allah wills
ٱللَّهُ ۗ l-lahu Allah wills
لِكُلِّ likulli For every
أُمَّةٍ ummatin nation
أَجَلٌ ۚ ajalun (is) a term
إِذَا idhā When
جَآءَ jāa comes
أَجَلُهُمْ ajaluhum their term
فَلَا falā then not
يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ yastakhirūna they remain behind
سَاعَةًۭ ۖ sāʿatan an hour
وَلَا walā and not
يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ yastaqdimūna they can precede (it)
