(Ayah2) {وَ اَخْرَجَتِ الْاَرْضُ اَثْقَالَهَا: ’’ أَثْقَالٌ ‘‘ ’’ثَقَلٌ‘‘} is the plural of "thaqalun", the belongings of a traveler and precious things which he protects, meaning whatever the earth has kept safe will be brought out. Or it is the plural of {’’ثِقْلٌ‘‘}, which means pregnancy, as it is said: « فَلَمَّاۤ اَثْقَلَتْ» [ الأعراف : ۱۸۹ ] "So when she (the woman) becomes heavy." In this case, the earth is likened to a pregnant woman, meaning such a severe earthquake will occur that the earth will split open and whatever deceased people or whatever else the earth has kept safe will be brought out and it will become empty, as it is said: «وَ اَلْقَتْ مَا فِيْهَا وَ تَخَلَّتْ » [الانشقاق : ۴ ] "And whatever is in it it will throw out and it will become empty."
