سُوْرَةُ الْعَلَقِ
Surah Al-Alaq (96) — Ayah 6
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ ﴿6﴾

Nay! Verily, man does transgress (in disbelief and evil deed).

(Ayah 6 to 8) ➊ The meaning of { كَلَّا اِنَّ الْاِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغٰۤى …: ’’ كَلَّا ‘‘} can be "never," "beware," or "the truth is," any of which may be appropriate depending on the context. {’’ الرُّجْعٰى ‘‘ ’’رَجَعَ يَرْجِعُ‘‘} is a verbal noun on the pattern of {’’بُشْرٰي‘‘} (with the letter ض).
➋ These verses were revealed after a pause following the first five verses, when Abu Jahl prevented you from praying. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying when Abu Jahl came and said, "Did I not forbid you from this?" He said this three times. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished his prayer, he rebuked him. Upon this, Abu Jahl said, "Do you know that in this city, no one has more companions in his assembly than I do?" So Allah Almighty revealed these verses: « فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهٗ (17) سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ» [العلق : 18،17 ] "Then let him call his assembly. We will soon call the angels of Hell." [ ترمذي، تفسیر القرآن، باب ومن سورۃ اقرأ باسم ربک : ۳۳۴۹ ] Tirmidhi and Albani (may Allah have mercy on them) have graded it Sahih.
➌ The connection of these verses with the initial five verses of the Surah is that, despite receiving so many blessings as mentioned above, instead of acknowledging the favor and being grateful, man chooses to rebel. And when Allah Almighty gives him everything he needs and makes him independent of others, he crosses the limits of servitude and comes to confrontation. He said, O servant! Rebel as much as you wish, surely you have to return to your Lord.
