Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 5) {وَالسَّمَآءِوَمَابَنٰىهَا: ’’بَنٰييَبْنِيْبِنَاءً‘‘} (ض) to make. Note that generally {’’مَنْ‘‘} is used for those who possess knowledge, such as Allah Almighty, angels, and humans, whereas {’’مَا‘‘} is used for others besides them. However, sometimes, due to a specific purpose, this is reversed and {’’مَا‘‘} is also used for those who possess knowledge, as {’’ مَا ‘‘} here is used for Allah Almighty. That is, and by the sky and by the One who made it! Here, instead of {’’مَنْ‘‘}, {’’ مَا ‘‘} is brought because here it is in the meaning of {’’اَلَّذِيْ‘‘} and after it, the attributes of Allah Almighty are mentioned. In the Noble Qur’an, the word {’’ مَا ‘‘} has been used for those who possess knowledge at several places, for example: « وَلَاۤاَنْتُمْعٰبِدُوْنَمَاۤاَعْبُدُ»[ الکافرون : ۳ ] “And you are not worshippers of the One whom I worship.” And He said: «فَانْكِحُوْامَاطَابَلَكُمْمِّنَالنِّسَآءِ »[ النساء : ۳ ] “So marry those women who please you.”
