Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 1) {وَ الشَّمْسِ وَ ضُحٰىهَا:} From the first verse to the eighth verse, the answer to all the oaths is that "Whoever purifies his soul has succeeded, and whoever buries it in the dust has failed." The relevance of these oaths and their answer (and Allah knows best) is that all of this Allah has created for the benefit of mankind, as He said: « هُوَ الَّذِيْ خَلَقَ لَكُمْ مَّا فِي الْاَرْضِ جَمِيْعًا » [ البقرۃ : ۲۹ ] "It is He who created for you all that is in the earth." Even the roof of the sky, the floor of the earth, the sun and its light, then the moon and its moonlight, and the daylight of the sun, then the night covering it, all of this is for his benefit. He said: « وَ سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الشَّمْسَ وَ الْقَمَرَ دَآىِٕبَيْنِ وَ سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الَّيْلَ وَ النَّهَارَ » [ إبراہیم : ۳۳ ] "And He has subjected for you the sun and the moon, both constantly running, and He has subjected for you the night and the day." Then Allah created man for His worship, and after shaping the human soul in the best form, He also made him recognize good and evil. Every person sees all these things with his own eyes and perceives them with his consciousness. Now it is clear that the person who, keeping in view these magnificent creations and the demands of the favors of their Creator, purifies himself from disbelief, polytheism, and oppression, surely he is successful because he has fulfilled the purpose of his creation. And the person who, closing his eyes to all these things, buries his soul in the mud of lust, anger, and polytheism and disbelief, he is unsuccessful.
