Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 85) {وَ لَا تُعْجِبْكَ اَمْوَالُهُمْ وَ اَوْلَادُهُمْ … :} This verse has already appeared earlier in verse (55) with a few differences in wording. The purpose of bringing it again here is that hypocrisy arises from the love and greed for these very things, as mentioned at the end of Surah Al-Munafiqun after mentioning their evil deeds: «لَا تُلْهِكُمْ اَمْوَالُكُمْ وَ لَاۤ اَوْلَادُكُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللّٰهِ» [المنافقون : ۹ ] "Beware, lest your wealth and your children distract you from the remembrance of Allah." Here too, by repeating the previous verse, the aim is to emphasize avoiding envy over the abundance of worldly things and to state that the abundance of wealth and children is harmful for the hypocrites. Also, see the notes on verse (55) of this Surah.
