سُوْرَةُ التَّوْبَةِ
Surah At-Tawba (9) — Ayah 82
فَلْيَضْحَكُوا۟ قَلِيلًا وَلْيَبْكُوا۟ كَثِيرًا جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿82﴾

So let them laugh a little and (they will) cry much as a recompense of what they used to earn (by committing sins).

(Ayah82) {فَلْيَضْحَكُوْا قَلِيْلًا وَّ لْيَبْكُوْا كَثِيْرًا:} Because the world is very insignificant compared to the Hereafter; how can the perishable be compared to the everlasting? Therefore, their laughter is for a very short time, and their weeping is for an extremely long period, which has no end. This is apparently a command, but when were the hypocrites ever obedient to commands? Therefore, in the words of command, information is being given, meaning these people will laugh very little and will weep very much. {’’ جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوْا يَكْسِبُوْنَ ‘‘} supports that this command is in the sense of information. The wisdom in this seems to be that in information there is a possibility of truth and falsehood, but in imperative (command and prohibition) there is no such possibility; it is definitive (although in Allah’s information there is also no possibility of falsehood).
