So let not their wealth nor their children amaze you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم); in reality Allâh’s Plan is to punish them with these things in the life of this world, and that their souls shall depart (die) while they are disbelievers.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah55) ➊ {فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ اَمْوَالُهُمْ وَ لَاۤ اَوْلَادُهُمْ :} That is, do not be deceived by the wealth, children, and worldly glitter of these people, thinking that if Allah were displeased with them, why would they possess so much wealth and so many children? Rather, do not even cast a glance toward these things of theirs. See Surah Ta-Ha (131) and Al-Mu’minun (55, 56).

{ اِنَّمَا يُرِيْدُ اللّٰهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ بِهَا فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا:} That is, do not consider these things in the world to be a sign of happiness; Allah has only given them respite so that they remain preoccupied day and night with accumulating wealth and worrying about the protection of their children, neither finding peace during the day nor rest at night. The tranquility of the heart, which is attained only through the remembrance of Allah, i.e., «اَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللّٰهِ تَطْمَىِٕنُّ الْقُلُوْبُ» [ الرعد : ۲۸ ], they are completely deprived of this.

{ تَزْهَقَ اَنْفُسُهُمْ وَ هُمْ كٰفِرُوْنَ:} That is, until their last breath, they will not be granted the divine enablement (Tawfiq) to repent and bring true faith with a sincere heart; rather, when they die, their attention will be only toward their wealth and children, with no concern for the Hereafter nor any interest in Allah. Although a believer also cares for his wealth and children, since Allah’s pleasure takes precedence for him over all else, these things are blessings for him and not a source of misery.
