قُلْ أَنفِقُوا۟ طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًا لَّن يُتَقَبَّلَ مِنكُمْ ۖ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا فَـٰسِقِينَ ﴿53﴾
Say: "Spend (in Allâh’s Cause) willingly or unwillingly, it will not be accepted from you. Verily, you are ever a people who are Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh)."
قُلْ qul Say
أَنفِقُوا۟ anfiqū Spend
طَوْعًا ṭawʿan willingly
أَوْ aw or
كَرْهًۭا karhan unwillingly
لَّن lan never
يُتَقَبَّلَ yutaqabbala will be accepted
مِنكُمْ ۖ minkum from you
إِنَّكُمْ innakum Indeed, you
كُنتُمْ kuntum [you] are
قَوْمًۭا qawman a people
فَـٰسِقِينَ fāsiqīna defiantly disobedient

(Ayah53) ➊ {قُلْ اَنْفِقُوْا طَوْعًا اَوْ كَرْهًا … :} In the previous verse, it was stated that there is punishment for the hypocrites in any case; now in this verse, it is said that they cannot escape this punishment in any way, because none of their good deeds will be accepted in the Hereafter. During the expedition of Tabuk, there were some hypocrites who said that they should be excused from joining, and in return, they were ready to offer financial assistance. They said this so that they would not become completely disgraced among the Muslims. Allah Almighty gave the answer to such people in this verse: those whose hearts are filled with hypocrisy and enmity towards Allah Almighty and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), their financial assistance will not be accepted in any way, whether they give it willingly or under compulsion. Shah Abdul Qadir (may Allah have mercy on him) writes: "The answer to what Jad bin Qais said about spending wealth is that the wealth of one without faith is not accepted." (Mawaddih)

{ اِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا فٰسِقِيْنَ:} For the acceptance of deeds, piety is a condition, which you do not possess. It is said: «اِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللّٰهُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ» [ المائدۃ : ۲۷ ] "Indeed, Allah accepts only from the pious." And see Surah Hajj (37) and Baqarah (265).
