Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
They (the disbelievers, the Jews and the Christians) want to extinguish Allâh’s Light (with which Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم has been sent - Islâmic Monotheism) with their mouths, but Allâh will not allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the Kâfirûn (disbelievers) hate (it).
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah32){يُرِيْدُوْنَاَنْيُّطْفِـُٔوْانُوْرَاللّٰهِبِاَفْوَاهِهِمْ … :} By Allah's light is meant Islam and its proofs of truth, which are extremely radiant. In this verse, the third vile trait of the Jews and Christians is mentioned: that they constantly strive by every means to prevent the spread of Islam and to extinguish it. Here, all their efforts to hinder and extinguish Islam are presented metaphorically: on one side, there is a very great light, such as the sun or the moon, and on the other side, the weakest attempt to extinguish it—blowing at it with one's mouth. The outcome of such blowing is clear to everyone. In the same way, on one side is Allah's light, that is, Islam, which Allah has determined to perfect in every circumstance; on the other side are the contemptible and futile efforts of the Jews and Christians, whose contemptible and futile efforts to hinder and extinguish it are like trying to extinguish not just the sun, but the greatest light in the universe, with the most insignificant thing—blowing from the mouth. Can they possibly prevent the completion of the light of Islam by this?
