And a declaration from Allâh and His Messenger to mankind on the greatest day (the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah - the 12th month of Islâmic calendar) that Allâh is free from (all) obligations to the Mushrikûn (See V.2:105) and so is His Messenger. So if you (Mushrikûn ) repent, it is better for you, but if you turn away, then know that you cannot escape (from the Punishment of) Allâh. And give tidings (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) of a painful torment to those who disbelieve.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 3) ➊ {وَ اَذَانٌ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ وَ رَسُوْلِهٖۤ اِلَى النَّاسِ … :} By “the Day of the Greater Pilgrimage” is meant the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, the day when the pilgrims come to Mina and perform the sacrifice. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sent me along with those people who were to make the announcement in Mina on the day of sacrifice, that after this year no polytheist will perform Hajj and no naked person will circumambulate the House of Allah, and the day of the Greater Pilgrimage is the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr), because people used to call (Umrah) the Lesser Pilgrimage. Thus, Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) made this clear announcement that year, so in the Farewell Pilgrimage in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj, no polytheist performed Hajj. [ بخاری، الجزیۃ و الموادعۃ، باب کیف ینبذ إلی أہل العھد ؟ : ۳۱۷۷ ]
From this it is known that those people who call that Hajj the Greater Pilgrimage which falls on a Friday, their statement is not correct. In another narration from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), it is further added that first the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) with this announcement, then after him sent Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to make this announcement (on behalf of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him). Thus, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the leader of the Hajj, on his order, I, my companions, and Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) made this announcement in Mina. [ بخاری، التفسیر، باب قولہ : « و أذان من اللہ …» : ۴۶۵۶ ] It is in Musnad Ahmad that along with the announcement of giving a four-month respite, ending the permission for the naked to circumambulate, and the announcement that no polytheist will perform Hajj in the coming year, it was also announced that no one except the believers will enter Paradise. [ أحمد :299/2، ح : ۷۹۹۶ ]
{ وَ اِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَاعْلَمُوْۤا …:} This announcement was repeated for emphasis, so that the disbelievers would not think in any way that they could escape Allah’s grasp.
