Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ مَنْسَرَّہٗأَنْیَّنْظُرَإِلٰییَوْمِالْقِیَامَۃِکَأَنَّہٗرَأْيُعَیْنٍفَلْیَقْرَأْ: « اِذَاالشَّمْسُكُوِّرَتْ » [ التکویر : ۱ ] and « اِذَاالسَّمَآءُانْفَطَرَتْ»[ الانفطار : ۱ ] and « اِذَاالسَّمَآءُانْشَقَّتْ »[ الانشقاق : ۱ ] ] [ مسند أحمد : 27/2، ح : ۴۸۰۶۔ ترمذي : ۳۳۳۳، سندہ صحیح ] "Whoever wishes to look at the Day of Resurrection as if he is seeing it with his own eyes, then let him recite Surah At-Takwir, Surah Al-Infitar, and Surah Al-Inshiqaq."
In the opening verses of this Surah, twelve things that will occur on the Day of Resurrection have been mentioned. The first six things will happen at the time of the first blowing (of the trumpet), and the last six things at the time of the second blowing. After these, in the thirteenth verse, that matter is stated which is the purpose of mentioning all these things, that is, at that time every soul will know what it has brought with it.
(Ayah 1) {اِذَاالشَّمْسُكُوِّرَتْ: ’’كَوْرُالْعِمَامَةِوَتَكْوِيْرُهَا‘‘} To wrap a turban. {’’تَكْوِيْرُالْمَتَاعِ‘‘} To gather and tie up belongings. (Summary of Qamoos) {’’ كُوِّرَتْ ‘‘} That is, the sun, which is so vast, its rays and light will be wrapped up and it will become completely devoid of light. The same will happen to the moon. Thus, it is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ اَلشَّمْسُوَالْقَمَرُمُكَوَّرَانِيَوْمَالْقِيَامَةِ ][ بخاري، بدء الخلق، باب صفۃ الشمس والقمر : ۳۲۰۰ ] "The sun and the moon will be wrapped up on the Day of Resurrection."
