Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
And let not those who disbelieve think that they can outstrip (escape from the punishment). Verily, they will never be able to save themselves (from Allâh’s Punishment).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 59){وَلَايَحْسَبَنَّالَّذِيْنَكَفَرُوْاسَبَقُوْا …:} Here, first and foremost, those disbelievers of Quraysh are meant who managed to escape from the battlefield of Badr with their lives. It is said that they should never think that they have escaped Allah’s grasp; who can escape His grasp, and who can render Him helpless and flee? In fact, the generality of the words and the actual reality is that any disbeliever should never consider himself successful in escaping Allah Almighty’s grasp. If this grasp is not manifested in this world, then at the time of death and after it, where will they escape to? They can never render Allah helpless. Allah Almighty can send punishment upon them whenever and however He wills.
