Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 49) ➊ { اِذْ يَقُوْلُ الْمُنٰفِقُوْنَ وَ الَّذِيْنَ فِيْ قُلُوْبِهِمْ مَّرَضٌ:} “Those in whose hearts is a disease” refers to the new Muslims, in whose hearts doubt had not yet been completely replaced by full certainty. It can also refer to the Jews and the opposing polytheists.

{ غَرَّ هٰۤؤُلَآءِ دِيْنُهُمْ:} That is, their religious zeal has made them completely insane; they see that their numbers are few, they have no resources, to the extent that they do not even have a second horse to fight with except for one, yet they have set out to confront the armed and grand army of the Quraysh. Only madmen would invite their own death like this. The practice of calling the messengers and their companions mad and insane has continued from the first messenger to our Messenger, because the disbelievers simply cannot understand that which is born in the heart from faith. See Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:52, 53). Shah Abdul Qadir (may Allah have mercy on him) says: “Seeing the bravery of the Muslims, the hypocrites began to taunt; Allah said, this is not arrogance (being deceived), it is trust (tawakkul).” (Mawdhih)

{ وَ مَنْ يَّتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّٰهِ …:} And whoever’s trust is upon the One who is dominant over all and possesses perfect wisdom, his heart will certainly be strong; that is why the Muslims are fully prepared and determined in every way to confront the grand army of the disbelievers.
