وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا ﴿9﴾

And We have made your sleep as a thing for rest.

(Ayah 9 to 11){ وَ جَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا … : ’’ سُبَاتًا ‘‘} and {’’سَبْتٌ‘‘} are verbal nouns from the verb forms {’’نَصَرَ‘‘} and {’’ضَرَبَ‘‘}, meaning comfort, tranquility, to cut off. Look at your sleep, which, like death, cuts off all your movements and takes you into the valley of complete tranquility. Even after witnessing this scene of dying and coming back to life every day, do you still doubt being resurrected? Moreover, to relieve the wear and tear and fatigue of your body, sleep has been made a means of comfort and tranquility. Light could have disturbed this comfort, so We made the night dark, which, like a garment, covers everything. Then look at Our mercy, that We did not keep the night continuous, but made the day for seeking sustenance. If there had only been night, how would you have sought your sustenance?
