Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 20) ➊ {وَ سُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا : ’’ سَرَابًا ‘‘} which appears like water to a distant observer at midday, but in reality, it is nothing; similarly, the mountains will become like sand which from afar appears like water, but in reality, there is nothing like that.

➋ In the Quran, various states that will befall the mountains on the Day of Resurrection have been mentioned. First, with the sound of the Trumpet, the earth and the mountains will be struck with a single blow and shattered, as He said: « وَ حُمِلَتِ الْاَرْضُ وَ الْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَّاحِدَةً » [ الحاقۃ : ۱۴ ] "And the earth and the mountains will be lifted up and both will be struck with a single blow." Then they will become loose sand that keeps falling apart by itself, as He said: « وَ كَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيْبًا مَّهِيْلًا » [ المزمل : ۱۴ ] "And the mountains will become heaps of poured-out sand." Then they will become like carded wool, as He said: «وَ تَكُوْنُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنْفُوْشِ » [ القارعۃ : ۵ ] "And the mountains will be like carded colored wool." Then they will become scattered dust, as He said: « فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنْۢبَثًّا » [ الواقعۃ : ۶ ] "So they will become scattered dust." Then they will move like clouds, as He said: «وَ هِيَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحَابِ » [ النمل : ۸۸ ] "While they will be moving like the movement of clouds." Then they will become a mirage, as mentioned here, and then nothing of them will remain, only a barren plain will remain in which there will be neither any elevation nor any depression, as He said: « فَيَذَرُهَا قَاعًا صَفْصَفًا (106) لَّا تَرٰى فِيْهَا عِوَجًا وَّ لَاۤ اَمْتًا » [ طٰہٰ : 107،106 ] "Then He will leave it as a level plain, in which you will see neither any crookedness nor any elevation."
