Surah Al-Insaan (76) — Ayah 5
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِن كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا ﴿5﴾

Verily,, the Abrâr (the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism), shall drink of a cup (of wine) mixed with (water from a spring in Paradise called) Kâfûr

(Ayah 5) ➊ {اِنَّ الْاَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُوْنَ مِنْ كَاْسٍ … : ’’ الْاَبْرَارَ ‘‘ ’’بَارٌّ‘‘} or {’’بَرٌّ‘‘} is the plural, doers of good. {’’ كَاْسٍ ‘‘} is the vessel from which one drinks. Generally, the word {’’كَأْسٌ‘‘} is used for the vessel in which wine is present. {’’مِزَاجٌ‘‘} means mixture, blending, that which is added to a drink to enhance its taste or fragrance. {’’ كَافُوْرًا ‘‘} is a fragrant plant, the fragrance obtained and extracted from this plant, which is extremely cooling in effect.
➋ After mentioning the blazing fire for the disbelievers, it is stated regarding the righteous that they will drink such cups of wine in which there will be a mixture of camphor, meaning instead of the blazing fire, they will be given such wine in which there will be the cooling effect and fragrant mixture of camphor. It should be clear that the camphor of this world and the camphor of Paradise only share the name, just as the wine of this world and the wine of Paradise only share the name; the wine of Paradise will have those qualities of delight and pleasure that are found in the wine of this world, and even more, but it will be free from the defects of worldly wine, such as bad odor, loss of intellect, hangover, and bodily weakness, etc. Similarly, the camphor of Paradise will have the coolness, delicacy, and fragrance that the camphor of this world has, and even more, but it will be free from the harmful effects of worldly camphor, such as its poisonous effect and the somewhat unpleasant feeling in its smell. The meaning of {’’مِزَاجٌ‘‘} is that the wine given to the righteous will be mixed from the spring of camphor to enhance its fragrance and taste, which will bring its sharpness and heat to moderation.
