Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 2) ➊ { اِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ نُّطْفَةٍ اَمْشَاجٍ:} That is, the creation of man did not occur from only the sperm of the man or only the woman, but from the mingled sperm of both, because conception takes place only when both combine. Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ إِنَّ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيْظٌ أَبْيَضُ وَ مَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيْقٌ أَصْفَرُ فَمِنْ أَيِّهِمَا عَلَا أَوْ سَبَقَ يَكُوْنُ مِنْهُ الشَّبَهُ ] [ مسلم، الحیض، باب وجوب الغسل علی المرأۃ… : ۳۱۱] "The man's fluid is thick and white, and the woman's fluid is thin and yellow; whichever of them prevails or comes first, the child resembles that one."
{ نَبْتَلِيْهِ:} We test him, that is, the purpose of creating man is to test whether he does good deeds or bad, as He said: « لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ اَيُّكُمْ اَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا» [ الملک : ۲] "(Allah Almighty created death and life) so that He may test you as to which of you is best in deeds."
{فَجَعَلْنٰهُ سَمِيْعًا بَصِيْرًا:} "We made him hearing and seeing"—although animals also hear and see, they are not called "hearing and seeing," because they are deprived of the blessing of intellect. Allah Almighty has given man such powers of hearing and seeing by which he can distinguish between good and bad and can think far ahead. It is as if, compared to him, other animals are deaf and blind.
