Surah Al-Muddaththir (74) — Ayah 6
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ ﴿6﴾

(Ayah 6){ وَ لَا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ: ’’مَنَّ يَمُنُّ‘‘} To do Ihsan (goodness). {’’اِسْتَكْثَرَ‘‘} (Istif‘al) To seek more. {’’اِسْتَكْثَرَ الشَّيْءَ‘‘} also means to consider something as more. That is, when you do Ihsan (goodness) to someone, do not do it with the intention that you will get more in return. Neither expect anything in return for guiding someone to the right path, nor desire to get more after giving something to someone; keep expectation and desire only from your Lord. Besides this, the meaning is also correct that no matter how much Ihsan you do to someone, do not consider it as more. In this verse, the caller (da‘i) is commanded to avoid all kinds of greed and avarice, because these things are extremely harmful for the invitation to Allah.
