(Ayah 5) {وَ الرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ:} Its literal meaning is "And keep away from impurity." The meaning is that you should stay away from every kind of impurity. "Rujz" and "Rijs" are the same thing; their foremost example is idols and the shrines of other than Allah, as it is said: «فَاجْتَنِبُوا الرِّجْسَ مِنَ الْاَوْثَانِ وَ اجْتَنِبُوْا قَوْلَ الزُّوْرِ » [ الحج : ۳۰ ] "So avoid the filth of idols and avoid false speech." That is, avoid impurity, which are idols. Besides this, in {’’ الزُّوْرِ ‘‘} (impurity) are included every kind of corrupt belief, bad morals, false statements, evil character, and all visible and invisible impurities. In these two verses, the caller is instructed to keep himself pure and clean in every respect, because if he himself is impure or polluted, then what effect will his call have?
