Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 23,22) {اِلَّاالْمُصَلِّيْنَ … :} But those who pray are not impatient and faint-hearted; they neither complain in adversity nor are miserly when blessed with bounty. The proper performance of prayer develops such determination and courage in a person that he overcomes all such weaknesses, because to perform prayer five times a day, with all its conditions and etiquettes, without any worldly incentive, is a very difficult task that cannot be accomplished without fear of Allah and faith in the Hereafter. Allah the Exalted has said: « وَاسْتَعِيْنُوْابِالصَّبْرِوَالصَّلٰوةِوَاِنَّهَالَكَبِيْرَةٌاِلَّاعَلَىالْخٰشِعِيْنَ (45) الَّذِيْنَيَظُنُّوْنَاَنَّهُمْمُّلٰقُوْارَبِّهِمْوَاَنَّهُمْاِلَيْهِرٰجِعُوْنَ »[ البقرۃ : 46،45 ] "And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humble—those who are certain that they will meet their Lord and that they will return to Him."
From verses (23) to (34), those qualities are described without which even a person who prays remains "halu‘" (faint-hearted). The first of these qualities is constancy in prayer; it is not that sometimes it is performed and sometimes abandoned, because as soon as one abandons prayer, not only impatience and miserliness will return, but disbelief will also come back into him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: [ بَيْنَالْعَبْدِوَبَيْنَالْكُفْرِتَرْكُالصَّلَاةِ ][ أبو داوٗد، السنۃ، باب في رد الإرجاء : ۴۶۷۸۔ مسلم : ۸۲ ] "Between a person and disbelief is only the abandonment of prayer."
