So We saved him and those who were with him by a mercy from Us, and We cut the roots of those who belied Our Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.); and they were not believers.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 72) {وَ قَطَعْنَا دَابِرَ الَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا …… :} Allah Almighty has described in detail in other places in the Noble Qur’an the manner in which they were destroyed. For example, in Surah Qamar (18 to 20), Surah Dhariyat (41, 42), and Surah Haqqah (6 to 8), it is mentioned that Allah Almighty sent upon them a stormy wind which continued for seven nights and eight days without pause. That wind was so fierce and intense that whatever it passed over, it shattered to pieces, until it destroyed them by striking them down repeatedly. Their corpses appeared as if they were hollow trunks of date palms. The Qur’an has stated here and in other places as well that not a trace of the first ‘Ad was left behind. It is said: «فَهَلْ تَرٰى لَهُمْ مِّنْۢ بَاقِيَةٍ » [ الحاقۃ : ۸ ] “So do you see any remnant of them?” Arab historians have also unanimously counted them among the ‘Arab Ba’idah’ (those who have perished). Only Hud (peace be upon him) and his followers were saved from this punishment, and according to some, their descendants became known as “Ad Thaniyyah.” Some ancient relics also provide information about them.
