Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allâh or rejects His Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations)? For such their appointed portion (good things of this worldly life and their period of stay therein) will reach them from the Book (of Decrees) until when Our Messengers (the angel of death and his assistants) come to them to take their souls, they (the angels) will say: "Where are those whom you used to invoke and worship besides Allâh," they will reply, "They have vanished and deserted us." And they will bear witness against themselves, that they were disbelievers.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 37) ➊ {فَمَنْاَظْلَمُمِمَّنِافْتَرٰىعَلَىاللّٰهِكَذِبًا......: } Its connection is with the previous verse: «وَالَّذِيْنَكَذَّبُوْابِاٰيٰتِنَا», meaning these two types of people are the greatest wrongdoers. The first type includes those who falsely claim prophethood, associate partners with Allah, or falsely attribute any command to Allah (this also includes those who falsely attribute anything to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him). The second type includes all those who deny the Qur’an as the Book of Allah, or deny the prophethood of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. ➋ { اُولٰٓىِٕكَيَنَالُهُمْنَصِيْبُهُمْمِّنَالْكِتٰبِ:} That is, Allah Almighty has written for them in the Book “al-Lawh al-Mahfuz” whatever share of life, provision, comfort, or distress, etc., they will receive, and despite their wrongdoing and wickedness, there will be no decrease in it, perhaps they may repent. Until, when Our sent angels come to them to seize their souls, they will say to them, rebuking them: Where are those whom you used to call upon besides Allah? They will say: They have vanished from us, and they will bear witness against themselves that indeed they were disbelievers. This verse is a clear text that calling upon anyone besides Allah, seeking help from them, pleading, seeking deliverance, calling or considering anyone as Ghawth or remover of difficulties is disbelief, no matter how great the being is besides Allah, whether an angel, a messenger, or a saint. On the Day of Resurrection, those personalities will not even look at them, and those who called upon others besides Allah will themselves bear witness against themselves that indeed we were disbelievers and deprived of faith. Once, during a discussion with those who call upon others besides Allah, Maulana Ahmad Din Gakharvi, may Allah have mercy on him, recited this verse as evidence for the disbelief of calling upon others besides Allah and remained firm upon it until the end of the discussion. None of those who called upon others besides Allah could answer this verse. It is regrettable that, despite such clear verses in the Noble Qur’an, some scholars who call themselves Muslims and their followers call upon others besides Allah, seek help from them, some say {’’ يَارَسُوْلُاللّٰهِ ! اَغِثْنِيْ ‘‘}, some say “O Ali, help,” some call upon Shaykh Abdul Qadir for help, yet such people consider themselves Muslims and declare the monotheists as disbelievers. In any case, the Day of Resurrection is not far.
