وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ ﴿34﴾
And every nation has its appointed term; when their term comes, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment).
وَلِكُلِّ walikulli And for every
أُمَّةٍ ummatin nation
أَجَلٌۭ ۖ ajalun (is a fixed) term
فَإِذَا fa-idhā So when
جَآءَ jāa comes
أَجَلُهُمْ ajaluhum their term
لَا (they can) not
يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ yastakhirūna seek to delay
سَاعَةًۭ ۖ sāʿatan an hour
وَلَا walā and not
يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ yastaqdimūna seek to advance (it)

(Ayah 34 depends on 36){ وَ لِكُلِّ اُمَّةٍ اَجَلٌ ……:} In the first verse, it is stated that for everyone there is an appointed time which cannot be brought forward or delayed. In the second verse, it is mentioned that those who are obedient will have no fear or grief after death, but those who are rebellious will be seized by severe punishment.
