And as to those who hold fast to the Book (i.e. act on its teachings) and perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât ), certainly We shall never waste the reward of those who do righteous deeds.
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those who
يُمَسِّكُونَ yumassikūna hold fast
بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ bil-kitābi to the Book
وَأَقَامُوا۟ wa-aqāmū and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ l-ṣalata the prayer
إِنَّا innā indeed, We

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

By holding fast to the Book is meant acting upon it, and although prayer was included in this, it was mentioned specifically because it is the fundamental pillar of the religion. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ إِنَّ بَيْنَ الرَّجُلِ وَ بَيْنَ الشِّرْكِ وَالْكُفْرِ تَرْكَ الصَّلَاةِ ] [ مسلم، الإیمان، باب بیان اطلاق اسم الکفر… : ۸۲، عن جابر رضی اللہ عنہ ] "Indeed, between a man and shirk and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer." Thus, if there is no prayer, then there is also no holding fast to the Book.
