Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 10,9) {وَجَآءَفِرْعَوْنُوَمَنْقَبْلَهٗ … : ’’ الْمُؤْتَفِكٰتُ ‘‘ ’’اِئْتَكَفَ‘‘} is an active participle from (افتعال) and is an adjective for the omitted word {’’اَلْقُرٰي‘‘} (towns), meaning the overturned towns. The reference is to the towns of the people of Lut (Lot), whose upper part was turned downward and the lower part upward, and then a rain of stones of baked clay was sent upon them. For details, see Surah Hud (77 to 83) and Surah Al-Hijr (61 to 74). {’’اَلْخَاطِئَةُ‘‘ ’’ عَافِيَهٌ‘‘} is a verbal noun on the pattern of {’’ عَافِيَهٌ‘‘}, meaning sin, error. {’’ رَابِيَةً ‘‘ ’’رَبَايَرْبُوْ‘‘} (n) (to increase, to exceed) is an active participle, meaning that punishment was much greater in its intensity than other punishments, i.e., Pharaoh, those before him, and the people of Lut committed sin, so Allah seized them with His severe punishment. What was the sin? It was that {’’ فَعَصَوْارَسُوْلَرَبِّهِمْ ‘‘} they disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord.
