Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 4) {كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُوْدُ وَ عَادٌۢ بِالْقَارِعَةِ:’’اَلْقَارِعَةُ‘‘ ’’قَرَعَ‘‘} (F) Knocking, striking one hard thing against another. This is one of the names of the Day of Judgment, because it too will suddenly come knocking just as someone comes and knocks forcefully at the door and a person jumps up startled. The disbelievers are being reminded that those who denied the Day of Judgment before you were not the only ones, but before you, ‘Ad and Thamud—who were far greater than you in strength and power—also denied this Knocker (the Day of Judgment), so what was their end? Thamud, who were the most civilized nation in the northwest of Arabia, and ‘Ad, who were in the southeast of Arabia, after denying monotheism, their greatest crime was the denial of the Day of Judgment and the Hereafter, which made them rebellious, and as a result of which they were ultimately destroyed and ruined. The real cause of the rebellion of the so-called civilized, materialistic nations of the present age is also the denial of the Day of Judgment and reward and punishment.
