The disbelievers pretend that they will never be resurrected (for the Account). Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): Yes! By my Lord, you will certainly be resurrected, then you will be informed of (and recompensed for) what you did; and that is easy for Allâh.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 7) ➊ The word {زَعَمَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْۤا اَنْ لَّنْ يُّبْعَثُوْا: ’’ زَعَمَ ‘‘} also comes in the meaning of conjecture, in the meaning of making a claim, and in the meaning of telling a lie. Allah Almighty mentioned the claim of the disbelievers with the emphatic particle {’’ لَنْ ‘‘}, but called this claim a conjecture. As if their emphatic statement that they will never be raised up is nothing but conjecture and a lie. It is conjecture because they have no such means of knowledge on the basis of which they can say with certainty that there cannot be a second life. Man has never had such a means of knowledge before today, nor does he have it today, nor can he ever have it in the future, so what is the meaning of stating this claim with such emphasis? At most, a person can only say that after death, both possibilities of being raised up or not being raised up exist, but he cannot present any evidence in denial of being raised up.

{ قُلْ بَلٰى وَ رَبِّيْ لَتُبْعَثُنَّ:} That is, when they are denying the Resurrection with such emphasis based merely on conjecture, then you, in refutation of them, say with even more emphasis that I, on the basis of the knowledge of revelation from Allah, swear by my Lord with full certainty that you will surely, surely be raised up. The addressees of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) believed that he had never told a lie. Allah Almighty commanded him to say this with an oath, so that they would be convinced of it, because it is human nature that when something is said with an oath, it is believed. This is the third place where Allah Almighty has commanded the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to assure them of the Resurrection by swearing an oath. Earlier, in Surah Yunus, He said: «وَ يَسْتَنْۢبِـُٔوْنَكَ اَحَقٌّ هُوَ قُلْ اِيْ وَ رَبِّيْۤ اِنَّهٗ لَحَقٌّ وَ مَاۤ اَنْتُمْ بِمُعْجِزِيْنَ » [ یونس : ۵۳ ] "And they ask you, is it really true? Say, yes! By my Lord, indeed it is surely true, and you can by no means frustrate (Him)." Then in Surah Saba, He said: « وَ قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لَا تَاْتِيْنَا السَّاعَةُ قُلْ بَلٰى وَ رَبِّيْ لَتَاْتِيَنَّكُمْ» [ سبا : ۳ ] "And those who disbelieve said, 'The Hour will not come upon us.' Say, 'Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come upon you.'"

{ ثُمَّ لَتُنَبَّؤُنَّ بِمَا عَمِلْتُمْ:} In this, the purpose of being resurrected is stated: after subjugating the entire universe for your benefit and giving you the choice between faith and disbelief, how can it be that you will not be questioned at all? Therefore, after being raised up, you will surely, surely be informed of all that you did. By "informed" is meant reckoning and punishment, as is said in warning, "I will soon show you what you have done."

{وَ ذٰلِكَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ يَسِيْرٌ:} That is, resurrecting you is very easy and absolutely trivial for Allah Almighty, because the One who created you the first time, for Him to create you again is even easier. See also the commentary of Surah Ya-Sin (79, 78), Luqman (28), and Surah Rum (27). The disbelievers of Makkah, as is evident from many verses, believed that it was Allah Almighty who created human beings.
