And who can be more unjust than he who invents a lie against Allâh, or says: "A revelation has come to me" whereas no revelation has come to him in anything ; and who says, "I will reveal the like of what Allâh has revealed." And if you could but see when the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) are in the agonies of death, while the angels are stretching forth their hands (saying): "Deliver your souls! This day you shall be recompensed with the torment of degradation because of what you used to utter against Allâh other than the truth. And you used to reject His Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) with disrespect!"

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

:} In this noble verse, three types of people are mentioned, stating that who can be more unjust to themselves than them: first, those who fabricate lies against Allah by associating others as partners with Him, or who establish rules of halal and haram from themselves; second, those who falsely claim prophethood and say that revelation comes to them from Allah, such as Aswad Ansi, Musaylimah the liar, and the Qadiani deceiver, etc.; and third, those who claim that they can produce speech like the Quran, as it is mentioned in the Quran that some polytheists said: «لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هٰذَاۤ » [الأنفال :۳۱ ] If we wish, we can certainly say the like of this, although this is not possible. Three warnings have been stated regarding them: first, being the greatest of the unjust; second, the angels seizing their souls with severity; and third, the punishment of humiliation.

Remove your souls and hand them over to Us so that We may punish them, or save them from the agonies and torment of death if you can. (Fath al-Qadeer)

{اَلْيَوْمَ تُجْزَوْنَ …:} "Today" refers to the day on which their souls will be seized and the beginning of the punishment of the grave will occur. In this verse, there is a clear indication towards the punishment of the grave, because the Day of Resurrection will be established whenever Allah wills, and the interval in between, i.e., Barzakh, is veiled from us. No matter where any part of a human is or even if it becomes ashes, the punishment of the grave will occur there.
