And We bestowed upon him Ishâq (Isaac) and Ya‘qûb (Jacob), each of them We guided, and before him, We guided Nûh (Noah), and among his progeny Dâwûd (David), Sulaimân (Solomon), Ayyûb (Job), Yûsuf (Joseph), Mûsâ (Moses), and Hârûn (Aaron). Thus do We reward Al-Muhsinûn (the good-doers - see the footnote of V.9: 120).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 84) ➊ {كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا:} means He set them upon the path of Ibrahim (عليه السلام) and granted them prophethood. See Surah Maryam (49).

➋ The pronoun in {وَ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهٖ دَاوٗدَ وَ سُلَيْمٰنَ … : ’’ ذُرِّيَّتِهٖ ‘‘} may refer to Nuh عليه السلام as well, because among the mentioned prophets, Nuh عليه السلام is the closest. Imam Ibn Jarir رحمه الله has chosen this view. This pronoun can also refer back to Ibrahim عليه السلام, and in view of the context, this can be given preference. However, the mention of Lut عليه السلام among the prophets listed under this would present a problem, as he was not from the descendants of Ibrahim عليه السلام, but rather his nephew. Yet, it is possible that a nephew is also counted among the descendants, just as in Surah Al-Baqarah (133), Ismail عليه السلام is mentioned among the forefathers of Yaqub عليه السلام’s descendants. (Ibn Kathir)

➌ Counting Isa عليه السلام among the descendants of Nuh عليه السلام, or according to the other view, among the descendants of Ibrahim عليه السلام, is proof that the offspring of daughters are also counted among a person’s descendants, because Isa عليه السلام is related only through his mother, as he had no father. (Ibn Kathir)
