His people disputed with him. He said: "Do you dispute with me concerning Allâh while He has guided me, and I fear not those whom you associate with Him (Allâh) in worship. (Nothing can happen to me) except when my Lord (Allâh) wills something. My Lord comprehends in His Knowledge all things. Will you not then remember?

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 80) ➊ {وَ حَآجَّهٗ قَوْمُهٗ … :} When this debate took place with the people, his people presented many arguments to prove the correctness of their belief, for example, they presented this argument: «اِنَّا وَجَدْنَاۤ اٰبَآءَنَا عَلٰۤى اُمَّةٍ » [ الزخرف : ۲۲ ] "Indeed, we found our forefathers upon this way." They also threatened Ibrahim (peace be upon him) that these idols would afflict him with calamities and misfortunes. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) replied by saying {’’ وَ قَدْ هَدٰىنِ ‘‘} (Allah has guided me to the straight path), thus answering their first argument that in the face of a certain proof, the religion of your forefathers is meaningless, and in response to their threat, he said that if any harm is to come from the Lord, it can come, but these idols and false gods cannot harm me at all. (Razi)
{وَسِعَ رَبِّيْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا:} The knowledge of the reality and essence of everything is with my Lord, so only He can tell what guidance is and what misguidance is. When He has granted me the knowledge of guidance, then how can guidance be anything else? So can you not even think this much?
