And when you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) see those who engage in a false conversation about Our Verses (of the Qur’ân) by mocking at them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic. And if Shaitân (Satan) causes you to forget, then after the remembrance sit not you in the company of those people who are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 68) {وَ اِذَا رَاَيْتَ الَّذِيْنَ يَخُوْضُوْنَ … :} That is, when you see people in a gathering who are mocking the commands of Allah and His Messenger, or practically showing disrespect towards them, or they are people of innovation who, through their baseless interpretations and distortions, are twisting the verses of Allah, or are criticizing them and mocking them by giving them absurd meanings, then distance yourself from that gathering until they become engaged in other matters. And if, due to the forgetfulness caused by Satan, you end up sitting in such a gathering, then after remembering, do not remain seated with those wrongdoers. This command has already been mentioned earlier in Surah An-Nisa (140), in which it is also stated: «اِنَّكُمْ اِذًا مِّثْلُهُمْ» "Indeed, at that time you would be like them." The company of innovators is even worse than the company in which sins are being openly committed, especially for a person who is not intellectually or academically mature and does not have the ability to understand the errors of the innovators' false interpretations. However, people of knowledge may participate in such gatherings to criticize their false statements and to raise the word of truth.
