Indeed, they rejected the truth (the Qur’ân and Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) when it came to them, but there will come to them the news of that (the torment) which they used to mock at.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 5) {فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوْا بِالْحَقِّ … :} In the previous verses, the oneness of Allah and the Hereafter have been established; in this verse, the invalidity of blind following is being proven. (Razi) By "the truth" is meant the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the Book revealed to him. That which the disbelievers used to mock was the Hereafter and the matters that would occur therein, as well as the promises of Allah mentioned in the Qur'an regarding the dominance of Islam and the defeat of its enemies. The meaning is that now these disbelievers, considering this promise to be a mere joke, laugh at it and mock it, but soon the Muslims will be commanded to migrate to Madinah Munawwarah, and then such events will occur that this promise will become a reality before their eyes, and as soon as their eyes are closed, the Hereafter—which they used to mock—will also come before them.
