Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Nay, it has become manifest to them what they had been concealing before. But if they were returned (to the world), they would certainly revert to that which they were forbidden. And indeed they are liars.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 28) ➊ {بَلْبَدَالَهُمْمَّاكَانُوْا … :} The reality of the disbelief, polytheism, and hypocrisy that they were trying to hide by swearing false oaths before Allah will become exposed. Some have interpreted {’’ مِنْقَبْلُ ‘‘} as referring to hiding in the world, and have written that this verse is about the hypocrites, or that it refers to the leaders of the disbelievers, meaning they knew the truth of the Qur’an and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), but concealed it from their followers. On the Day of Resurrection, this reality will be revealed to their followers, and they will come to know that they were being deceived by them. ➋ {وَلَوْرُدُّوْالَعَادُوْالِمَانُهُوْاعَنْهُ:} That is, then they will again choose the path of disbelief, polytheism, and hypocrisy, because their desire is not due to having brought faith, but rather to somehow escape from Hell. ➌ {وَاِنَّهُمْلَكٰذِبُوْنَ:} Therefore, even in expressing this desire in the Hereafter, they will resort to lying.
