Surah Al-Hadid (57) — Ayah 26

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِى ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مُّهْتَدٍ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَـٰسِقُونَ ﴿26﴾
And indeed, We sent Nûh (Noah) and Ibrâhîm (Abraham), and placed in their offspring Prophethood and Scripture. And among them there are some who are guided; but many of them are Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh).
وَلَقَدْ walaqad And certainly
أَرْسَلْنَا arsalnā We sent
نُوحًۭا nūḥan Nuh
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ wa-ib'rāhīma and Ibrahim
وَجَعَلْنَا wajaʿalnā and We placed
فِى in
ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا dhurriyyatihimā their offspring
ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ l-nubuwata Prophethood
وَٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۖ wal-kitāba and the Scripture
فَمِنْهُم famin'hum and among them
مُّهْتَدٍۢ ۖ muh'tadin (is) a guided one
وَكَثِيرٌۭ wakathīrun but most
مِّنْهُمْ min'hum of them
فَـٰسِقُونَ fāsiqūna (are) defiantly disobediently

(Ayah 26) ➊ {وَ لَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا نُوْحًا وَّ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ …:} In this verse, first the great virtue of Nuh and Ibrahim (peace be upon them) is mentioned, that all other prophets (peace be upon them) were from their descendants. After this, it mentions all the prophets who came with clear proofs, the Book, and the Balance, and how their nations treated their messengers and what caused corruption among them.

{فَمِنْهُمْ مُّهْتَدٍ وَ كَثِيْرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فٰسِقُوْنَ: ’’مِنْ‘‘} is for indicating a part (tab'id), meaning that some of them followed the right path and most of them were disobedient. That is, the real cause of their corruption was that they were not willing to accept anyone’s command against their own desires. Those with faith and righteous deeds were few, and the disobedient were always more. See also the commentary of Surah Sad (24).
