Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 37) {فَاِذَا انْشَقَّتِ السَّمَآءُ … : ’’ وَرْدَةً ‘‘} Pink like the rose flower. {’’اَلدِّهَانُ‘‘} There are two opinions among the scholars: one is red leather and the other is "oil" that is mixed. In this meaning, some say: it is the plural of {’’اَلدِّهَانُ‘‘ ’’دُهْنٌ‘‘} and some say it is singular. Oil is also called {’’ دُهْنٌ‘‘} and {’’دِهَانٌ‘‘}. For the explanation of {’’ فَاِذَا انْشَقَّتِ السَّمَآءُ ‘‘}, see Surah Haqqah (16), Furqan (25), and Surah Inshiqaq (1, 2).

If the meaning of {’’اَلدِّهَانُ‘‘} is taken as red leather, then at this point the verse is describing one attribute of the sky: that the sky, which is blue today, will become red and pink like red leather at that time. And if the meaning of {’’اَلدِّهَانُ‘‘} is taken as oil, then at the time of the sky splitting, the verse will be describing two attributes: one, that it will be red due to intense heat, and second, that it will melt and become like oil, as He said: « يَوْمَ تَكُوْنُ السَّمَآءُ كَالْمُهْلِ » [ المعارج : ۸ ] "The Day when the sky will be like molten brass (or dregs)."
