Surah Ar-Rahmaan (55) — Ayah 15
وَخَلَقَ ٱلْجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٍ مِّن نَّارٍ ﴿15﴾

(Ayah 15) {وَ خَلَقَ الْجَآنَّ مِنْ مَّارِجٍ مِّنْ نَّارٍ :} Tabari said {’’ مَارِجٍ مِّنْ نَّارٍ ‘‘} a mixture of red, yellow, and green colored fire. The meaning is the flame of fire and its tip. This is from {’’مَرَجَ أَمْرُ الْقَوْمِ‘‘}, which means "the affairs of the people became mixed together." Similarly, it is from the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which he said to Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both): [ يَا عَبْدَ اللّٰهِ ابْنَ عَمْرٍو! كَيْفَ بِكَ إِذَا بَقِيْتَ فِيْ حُثَالَةٍ مِّنَ النَّاسِ وَ فِيْ أَبِيْ دَاوٗدَ : قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُوْدُهُمْ وَ أَمَانَاتُهُمْ ] [ بخاري، الصلاۃ، باب تشبیک الأصابع…: ۴۸۰۔ أبو داوٗد : ۴۳۴۲ ] "O Abdullah bin Amr! What will be your condition when you remain among people like sifted bran?" In Abu Dawood it is: "Whose covenants and trusts will be mixed together." And Tabari, with an authentic chain from Ali bin Abi Talhah, has narrated the meaning of {’’ مَارِجٍ مِّنْ نَّارٍ ‘‘} as {’’خَالِصُ النَّارِ‘‘}.
