سُوْرَةُ الْقَمَرِ
Surah Al-Qamar (54) — Ayah 51
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ ﴿51﴾

And indeed, We have destroyed your likes; then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)?

(Ayah 51) {وَ لَقَدْ اَهْلَكْنَاۤ اَشْيَاعَكُمْ … :} Presenting an example of the power to bring about the Day of Judgment, it is stated that by oath, We have destroyed many groups like you, such as ‘Ad and Thamud, etc. They too were not ready to accept that punishment could come upon them, but when the punishment came, it came suddenly. In the same way, the Day of Judgment will also come suddenly, so is there anyone who will take a lesson from these groups like themselves and prepare for the Day of Judgment? Here again is iltifat, that is, the polytheists have been addressed, because the purpose is to rebuke. {’’أَشْيَاعٌ‘‘ ’’شِيْعَةٌ‘‘} is the plural, meaning people of a group holding the same belief who support each other. Here, {’’ اَشْيَاعَكُمْ ‘‘} means that those people were also like you in disbelief and polytheism.
